Solid-State Dynamics and Education

This group focuses on the fast manipulation of magnetic order and the fundamental properties of matter which limit this fast dynamics. In order to achieve this goal, spin- and energy-resolved photoemission experiments are carried out at various free electron laser (FEL) sources and also with bench-top laser systems. During a recent FEL beam time at FLASH (Hamburg) it was demonstrated that time- and spin-resolved photoemission experiments using an FEL X-ray pulsed probe-beam are indeed possible and that demagnetization of a Fe film occurs at an ultrafast timescale (< 1 ps). Apart from the teaching activities, the group also carries out educational research. One goal here is to promote formative assessment in the high school teaching of physics.
