Dynamics of Strongly Correlated Materials
Headed by Joël Mesot, Director of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), this group focusses its research on spin excitations of magnetic systems and on electronic excitations of exotic superconductors. The main experimental techniques used to explore the physics governing the function of these materials are nuclear magnetic resonance (carried out at our institute) as well as inelastic neutron and X-ray scattering and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (making use of the PSI large-scale facilities). The group also benefits from the expertise of H.-R. Ott continuing as an active researcher after his retirement in 2005. One recent research highlight originating from the LFKP experimental facilities was the extraction of NMR relaxation dynamics in the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg chain compound BaCu2(Si1-xGex)2O7.
